Mixed-Media to Motion
J. Kracht
September 13 to October 18, 2025

Opening Reception: Saturday, September 13th 5-7pm

Mixed-Media to Motion is a collection of paintings using found media gathered in California’s urban environments. As an artist I am a witness to the ever-increasing constrictions on freedom and privacy shared across race and political divides. I have always seen art as a weatherglass of political, social and spiritual thought. This collection of compositions are both a product born from our collective social climate and an existential response to the current instability.

Mixed-Media to Motion is a play of color theory, texture making and found media. The exhibit is both serene and emotional; apocalyptic at times while whimsically playful, tactile, innocent and engaging. The work is influenced by the land beneath our feet, ethereal and existential ideas and articulation. This exploration of painting and mixed media incorporates appropriated commercial canvas art, pigmented plastics, metallic mylar, found fabrics and paper that reports cultural demographics, inherent cross-cultural symbolism and our location in time.

About the Artist:
I am an interdisciplinary artist with a practice in mixed media painting and ceramic sculpture as well as a variety of visual, sculptural and literary mediums to focus my creative energies. My works are influenced in part by Eastern Philosophy and the writings of Carl G. Jung and his “Archetype” theories concerning the human psyche. I believe that the life energy principal fuels my artistic expressions and my artmaking is always my attempt at capturing and conveying the softer states of consciousness and emotion.

I am drawn to color theory and found media and am inspired by cultural and symbolic values of found and repurposed media and strive to reveal and report these in my work. My media includes found fabrics, paper, industrial packing materials, metallic mylar beads etc.

I move into creation always following some form of line work; lines of pigment, lines of arranged media or surface texture. The pure materiality of the media and medium ensures that my designs are always a physical poetry and conversation.

Finally, I believe my location in the art history makes me an active part of a continuously evolving collective art mind for all to brief a moment.
