!SPEAK!
November 5, 2013 to January 5, 2014
Opening Reception ~ Saturday, November 9th 6-9pm
In this exhibit of photos and photomontages, Sexton is engaging in a conversation centered on power and control, both the kind that result from unseen, elemental forces and those imposed by the privileged class on the individual. The elements and shapes speak to gender expressions that help define us as individuals, in spite of social conventions that require coded communication. Coming out of an age of cultural antagonisms and denial, the work speaks to experiencing an asymmetrical polarity of thought that attracts extremism in viewpoint and action.

About the Artist:
Barbara Sexton is a social-political artist whose practice spans a broad range of disciplines including: installations, drawings, photography, digital media, sound, sculpture and technology. Born in Pittsburg, PA to Jewish-Hungarian immigrants and raised in New York, her work is informed by a multi-cultural experience and a degree in mathematics. Her work is primarily concerned with exploring the relationships between visible and invisible, field and boundary and finite and infinite space. In her latest projects she examines binary systems that help define the human condition and the unseen elements that provoke attraction or opposition, or at least contribute to their ability to bestow power and control. She has exhibited her work both nationally and internationally.
Thank you from the artist:
I want to sincerely thank Jenny Armer and Kimberly Tomney for their essential role in mounting the show. Special thanks to Julie Warren for her mentoring and Lynn Susholtz and her staff for their support and professionalism in making the Art Produce Gallery space available to artists.
