Unauthorized Version
Cindy Zimmerman August 2 to September 1, 2019 Opening Reception: Friday, August 2nd 6-8pm Open Studio featuring Foot Washing Saturday, August 17th 6-8pm Gallery hours: Saturdays 12-2pm through August 31st. About the Exhibit: “Unauthorized Version" is an installation of visual chapters, footnotes, and remnants of the life of a defiant and adventurous M. Magdalen. The paintings and objects borrow from the style of educational art in Catholic churches to frame an irreverent but affectionate hagiography. In this version, the unrepentant saint M. Magdalen shows up where she wasn’t invited. She takes on roles not designated for her gender and won’t allow a middleman between her and heaven. Her furry pelt is an outgrowth of the writings of early Christian authors. In those ancient texts, the actions and attributes of any holy woman who walked on the wild side were folded into her story. “Unauthorized Version” will be the site of remade rituals, including foot treatments with steam towels and essential oils. Pamphlets and greeting cards will be for sale in the vestibule. Dates and times TBA. |
