Constance Y. White
Community Room Artist in Residence
May 16 to June 11 2022
A small group of women of color are invited to participate in an interdisciplinary social project. The process includes individual collage-making facilitated through a two-part sequential workshop. Topics in the workshop affront negative stereotypes by questioning assumptions of dominant social ideologies. Using iterative artistic techniques based on personal stories, the process merges reality and imagination through the lenses of participants. The culminating project intends to contribute to participants claiming agency to their own personal empowerment while aiming to fully embody their highest selves.
This is a narrative collage process intended to be an exciting and exploratory workshop series. During two 2-hour workshops, participants will build and construct multimedia collages. Collaborative synergy and personal energy will inform the workshop and lead the group and individuals in a self affirming direction. This is a fun, exploratory process for all skill levels.
Workshops: Saturday, May 28th and June 4th from 10am-12pm

About the Artist:
Constance Y. White is a multidisciplinary collage artist who dismantles, plays with and reimagines ephemeral material as visual expressions of personal narratives. Her process involves organizing groups of women to share personal experiences that result in narrative collages created by both the artist and the participants. Biographical in essence, Constance’s work interprets the unspoken and revelatory aspects of self discovery which often read as dreamscapes and visual metaphors in her work.
