Melanie Taylor
Cooler Room Artist in Residence
August/September
Monotype Workshop:
Saturday, August 27 11am
URBAN TREES MONOTYPES
A monotype is a unique print that is “pulled” from a glass, metal or plexiglass plate on which ink
or paint has been applied and manipulated. The image can be transferred to paper by hand or
with a press. Artists who create monotypes include Tracy Emin, Arthur Boyd, Paul Gauguin,
Paul Klee and William Blake amongst others. In this workshop drawn and painted monotypes,
using a hand-printing method, will be demonstrated and created.
"During the residency I will create a series of drawings from observation and related interpretive works of local urban trees. The drawings will be portraits of individual trees and tree groups, aiming to bring awareness to their character and significance in our environment. Through the drawings I hope to encourage knowledge of urban horticulture and its role in reducing effects of pollution and environmental stress while improving physical and mental health."
