Nassem Navab
April 13th to May 30th 2020
Cooler Room Artist in Residence
About the project:
My work will explore cultural displacement, especially those of Islamic and Middle Eastern immigrant families living in the US. Domestic objects will be completely encapsulated in transparent vinyl. There will be visible scarring to the objects; the transparent vinyl will serve as a bandage. The objects will mirror the internal state of an immigrant’s discomfort and contradiction, self-inflicted either through systems they imported with them from the countries they fled or as a reaction to the hostile conditions imposed on them from the country they fled to.
