Art Produce’s spirited exhibition “Retelling/Recontar,” on view through April 30th, celebrates the sharp vision and distilled epiphanies of Marianela de la Hoz and Helen Redman. These fierce painters share an interest in presenting characters who embody the tension of living in a shifting, and at times declining cultural landscape. Drawing on a vast personal archive to juxtapose symbols, creatures, icons, and humans, they engage in a conversation that relocates our faith in hybridity and hierarchy.
