the loneliest part of here is now
Zaquia Mahler Salinas Immersive Dance Film Experience September 28-30, 2017 Art Produce Community Room Viewing Times: Thursday-Saturday 6:00pm, 6:45pm; 7:30pm, 8:15pm, 9:00pm the loneliest part of here is now is an immersive dance film experience which explores the dichotomic nature of desire for human connection and an endless struggle with self. It is a biomythographical assortment of abstracted memories embodied by a collection of women - connected yet alone. Through a synthesizing of our own lived histories to the greater collective memory, and a deconstruction of the collective memory to manifest story as individuals, the loneliest part of here is now is a magical reinvention and retelling of the self through connectivity with others. Zaquia Mahler Salinas is a performer, dance maker, and teacher from San Diego, CA. She holds a BA in Dance with Honors from UC Santa Barbara and an MFA in Dance: Creative Practice from Saint Mary’s College of California. Zaquia has been a company member and teacher with Jean Isaacs’ San Diego Dance Theater since 2012. As a choreographer, Zaquia has received awards and recognitions for dance works she has presented at events such as Kinesis Santa Barbara, World Cultures Program at San Diego City College, UC San Diego’s ArtPower!, SDDT’s Young Choreographer’s Showcase and Prize, San Diego International Fringe Festival, and San Diego Dance Theater’s Trolley Dances. Her works include various evening-length pieces, several shorter works, as well as dance films. Currently, she is invested in sharing her most recent research; the loneliest part of here is now.
