Some artists who remain, like Susholtz, have become citizen artists, showing up at community planning meetings, and in the case of Susholtz, contributing, with Goldman, the arts and culture component of the revised North Park Community Plan.
“I mean, there are a lot of entrepreneurs in North Park in the business industry. I’ve seen fewer in the culture ‘industry.’ It’s hard to come up with a new model and make it successful, especially if we’re in a market-based, product-based, commercial economy and people want to see art as entertainment and recreation or something that can decorate their walls.”
