Tuesday, June 17th 7-9:30pm
In the Art Produce Garden

Hosted by Deborah Dorn, Julia Holladay, and Judy Bernstein.

Please join us for an evening with Sedrick Ntwali, Founder and Director of Young African Refugees for Integral Development (YARID) who will highlight his recent work in Uganda and his upcoming advocacy efforts in D.C. -- in commemoration of World Refugee Day.

In 2008, Sedrick, a young refugee himself from the Democratic Republic of Congo began organizing the community of young refugees in Kampala through soccer. Now, YARID serves hundreds of urban refugees - men, women, and children - to become self-sufficient by offering English classes, sports for development, computer trainings, HIV/AIDS awareness, and vocational skills to women.

The purpose of this event is to raise funds for specific YARID project needs. Sedrick (Founder) and Kaley (YARID Development Director) will travel back to Uganda this summer armed with new strategies and tools to impact change.

A short (30 min.) documentary film produced by Sedrick about urban refugees in Kampala will be shown at nightfall (around 8:15 pm).

Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served.

Young African Refugees for Integral Development (YARID) is a registered NGO based in Uganda, Africa, founded in 2007 by a young Congolese refugee living in Uganda. The mission of YARID is to empower refugees, orphans and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) around Africa to overcome the burdens of deprivation and vulnerability to become healthy, educated, self-sustaining and contributing members of society. YARID unites urban refugees through different avenues like sports and skills training in order to address social issues like ethnic violence, youth unemployment, public health, and conflict resolution. Refugees mainly come from the Great Lakes Region: Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Burundi
