Make It Yourself
Our popular weekly, free multigenerational Community Art Classes are back for 2022!

Saturdays, 12-2pm
June 4th through August 27th


New multi-media activities are offered each week and taught by professional artists and educators from our Artist in Residence program.

This is a drop-in class...just show up. All ages and all abilities are welcome.
Classes are held outside in our beautiful Garden. Bring the family and a picnic!

Puppets for Home, Work & Recreation
Artist duo Brian & Ryan will be running an all-ages puppet making workshop. Learn to make your own simple puppet from household supplies ranging from clothespins to old (but clean) socks. Join them as you create your own puppet companion to use in all kinds of professional, social and domestic situations.

Explore simple monoprint techniques using acrylic paint, plants from the garden, photographs, and your imagination!  With step by step instructions, we will layer color, pattern, and image to create one-of-a-kind prints! ​

Draw it, cut it, wear it: Making paper costumes and cutouts
In this class, Dakota Noot will demonstrate creating wearable art and freestanding cutouts through drawing. With crayons, markers, and pencils, you too can transform yourself and your environment. Noot will cover drawing animals, imaginary creatures, and other people and objects. Whether decorating your room or making a costume, paper drawings are resourceful and imaginative.

Explore Art Produce and the garden through texture! Frottage is a fun and tactile method of mark making. Using tracing paper and soft pastel, we will collect rubbings of various surfaces and textures from around Art Produce as the basis of a collage.

Learn how to make zines out of sheets of paper and see some inspiring zine examples. No experience necessary! We will provide all the materials you will need, but if you have an image you want to use to make a button or collage, feel free to bring it!

Harvesting Colors of the Garden
Explore the potential of natural color! Create natural dyes and watercolors with easily foraged plants and kitchen waste. Bring a piece of clothing to dye with colors from the garden, take away dyed fabric samples and create a drawing in reaction to the sounds of the garden.​

Make an animal pot for small succulents using coil, pinch or hollowed out techniques. Clay and tools will be provided. They will be kiln fired to pick up mid-August to take home.​

Affirmations and Animals of Comfort
Make your own affirmations posters to give you a friendly, positive reminder each day, as told by an animal of comfort. No art experience needed - just a willingness to play and explore. You can also contribute to an emotions/ affirmations quilt that will be made on felt squares and sewn together by the teaching artist.
